China demands WHO to investigate coronavirus leak from US laboratory

0views

It has become known that more than 500,000 Chinese citizens have signed an open letter demanding that the WHO begin an investigation into the leak of coronavirus from laboratories in the United States.

The Chinese are demanding an investigation be conducted on the territory of the American biological laboratory located at the Fort Detrick base.

The appeal states that such a measure will make it possible to predict and, most importantly, “prevent future epidemics,” the Global Times reports.

The authors of the message learned that back in 2019, a leak occurred in the said laboratory.

Just before the coronavirus pandemic began. This was hidden by the US authorities and has not been disclosed to this day.

In addition, it is reported that dangerous samples have repeatedly disappeared from this base.

On July 17, it became known that the WHO intends to conduct an inspection in Chinese laboratories for a possible leak of coronavirus.

But according to Dr. Ghebreyesus, this should be exclusively scientific work, the results of which should not be politicized.

At the same time, Ghebreyesus noted that at the initial stage of the epidemic, China did not provide the necessary transparency and cooperation, and also stated difficulties in sharing raw data.
