What happened

The fire on Wan’an Bridge started yesterday evening. As a result, the structure burned completely and collapsed.

The fire has now been extinguished and there were no casualties.

It is still unknown why the bridge caught fire; the causes of the emergency are being established.

What is remarkable about Wan’an Bridge?

Located in Pingnan County, Fujian Province, the Wan’an Bridge was built 917 years ago during the Song Dynasty, which ruled from 960 to 1279.

In 1708, the bridge survived a fire and was restored in 1742.

The length of the bridge was 98.2 meters, width – 4.7 meters. Wan’an was the longest wooden arch bridge in the country.

In 2006, Wan’an was included in the list of national-level protected sites.
