China’s population has declined for the first time in six decades.

This happened last year. Previously, such a phenomenon was recorded only during the period of mass famine in the Middle Kingdom – from 1959 to 1961.

The relevant information was published in the report of the State Statistical Office of the People’s Republic of China – TASS.

The document notes that by the end of 2022, China’s population decreased by 850,000 people (compared to 2021) – to 1.411 billion people.

Experts say that in the next three years the trend will continue – the population will decline.

As for the past year, by the end of it there were, according to the report data, 1,411,750,000 inhabitants in the Celestial Empire.

A year earlier, the figure was 850,000 more.

The report also states that in 2022, the number of Chinese births was 9.56 million, and the number of deaths was 10.41 million.

At the end of last year, there were 722.06 million men living in China, and 689.69 million women.

The number of working-age Chinese (ages 16 to 59) at that time was 875.56 million, approximately 62% of the total population.

The number of people over 65 years of age amounted to 209.78 million people – about 14.9% of the total population living in the country.

At the end of last year, 920.71 million people lived in the cities of the Celestial Empire, which is 6.46 million more than in the previous year.

In rural areas, 491.04 million people were recorded at the end of last year – the figure decreased compared to 2021 – 7.31 million people.
