Authorized creation, the CPI of the Senate’s BETs now depends on the appointment of members to begin functioning. The parties define the compositions in the next 10 days, when the installation must be scheduled, and there is already coordination for the PP to hold the presidency.
Senator Dr. Hiran (PP-RR) is the most likely to take command, with Eduardo Gomes (PL-TO) as vice president. Senator Soraya Thronicke, who collected the signatures for the CPI to be created, is seeking the role of rapporteur.
The commission will have 11 full members and seven substitutes, and intends to carry out an expanded analysis of financial operations related to virtual online betting games in Brazil.
The idea is that the CPI will also provide material income for the implementation of more robust mechanisms to control and combat organized crime and money laundering, in addition to protecting the consumer and the integrity of the market.
In the justification presented to defend the creation, senator Soraya Thronicke stated that there is a concern about the financial and mental health of bettors and that bets move exorbitant amounts through online platforms, which may be used to mask illicit activities.
“The alert for a CPI is justified given the complexity of the scenario and the need for an in-depth investigation to identify possible flaws in the regulation and supervision of these activities. The lack of transparency in some operations, the difficulty in tracking transactions are elements that worsen the situation, requiring a firm response from the legislative branch”, states the parliamentarian in the request that gave rise to the CPI.
There is an expectation that influencer Deolane Bezerra, who was arrested by the Federal Police, will be called to testify, as her summons was approved on Tuesday (8). .
After being installed, the CPI has 130 days to operate and a cash fund of R$110,000 to cover investigation expenses.
