CPI of Betting in the Senate approves the summons of Deolane Bezerra

The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on the Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting in the Senate approved, this Tuesday (8), the summons of influencer Deolane Bezerra to give testimony. The hearing will also be scheduled by the president of the CPI, Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO).

Lawyer, businesswoman and influencer Deolane Bezerra, who was imprisoned for 19 days in September, is the target of investigation into money laundering crimes and illegal gambling.

The was presented by senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE). In the request, the congressman justifies that Deolane’s hearing can “help clarify issues” important to the CPI report, which aims to “unveil possible implications of criminal factions with companies operating in the online gaming and betting market”.

The CPI also approved the summons of Darwin Henrique da Silva Filho, CEO of the company Esportes, the target of investigations, and Bruno Tolentino, uncle of Brazilian national team player Lucas Paquetá, an athlete for Westram, an English club.

In the request presented to the CPI to summon Tolentino, senator Jorge Kajuru reports that, according to a report on the UOL portal, Tolentino had transferred R$40,000 to Luiz Henrique, when the player played for Real Betis (Spain).

According to the English Football Federation (FA), the transfers occurred after the athlete received yellow cards during games for the Spanish club.

The CPI also approved invitation requests to authorities and representatives of entities linked to online gaming. Among the guests is the chief director of the Federal Police (PF), Andrei Rodrigues.

The CPI was installed on April 10 and has an operating period until February 2025. This Tuesday, the board hears athlete manager William Rogatto, investigated by the Public Ministry of the Federal District and the Federal Police for fraud in the results of games of the Brasilia football championship.

Parliamentarians must also take, this Tuesday, the testimony of Dayana Nunes, president of Sociedade Esportiva Santa Maria (DF). On Wednesday (9), the CPI will hear Daniel Mostardeiro Cola, general coordinator of the Repression of Corruption, Financial Crimes and Money Laundering at the Federal Police.
