Date set for snap presidential elections in Iran

193views

It became known that Iran has set a date for holding early presidential elections.

June 28 was chosen for this event, as reported by the press secretary of the country’s election headquarters, Mohsen Eslami.

June 28 can be considered the day of the 14th (in the history of Iran. – Ed.) presidential elections, – his statement to TASS agency.

The spokesman noted: The Guardian Council of the Constitution has been asked to begin the candidate registration campaign on May 28th.

It is worth clarifying here: the aforementioned Council of Guardians of the Constitution not only studies laws adopted by the Mejlis (parliament) for their compliance with the constitution, but also deals with issues of approving candidates for elections.

In addition, it is the Council that approves candidates for the most important government positions, including the post of president.

The early presidential elections in Iran are due to the recent death of head of state Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.

Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the governor of the East Azerbaijan province Malek Rahmati, the imam of the city of Tabriz Mohammad Ali Ale Hashem and the head of the presidential guard, who were also flying with him, were also killed.

The causes and circumstances of the disaster are determined by a specially created commission.

The first vice-president of Iran, Mohammad Mokhber, serves as the country’s president.

Previously, the Vice President of Iran Raisi died.
