Death toll from highway collapse in China rises to 36

According to the latest officially confirmed data, the number of victims of this emergency has increased to 36 people (previously it was reported about 19, a little later about 24 dead).

TASS agency reported this with reference to Chinese media.

The latter recall that the tragedy occurred on Wednesday night (May 1) in the city of Meizhou, Guangdong Province.

Then a giant hole appeared right on the road, into which at least 18 vehicles fell.

Some cars caught fire after falling. Dozens of people died, about fifty were injured, of which about 30 people were hospitalized.

The media note that about 18 meters of the road surface with an area of ​​approximately 184 square meters collapsed.

According to a statement by local authorities, the cause of the collapse could have been the heavy rains that raged in the province last week.

Earlier it was reported that 18 cars were hit in China.
