Early presidential elections are held in Uzbekistan

On Sunday, July 9, early presidential elections started in Uzbekistan.

More than 10 thousand polling stations were opened across the country.

Voting began today at 8 am local time (06:00 Belarusian time).

The polling stations will close at 18:00 local time, reports with reference to the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan.

The news agency notes that voter activity was noticeable at the very beginning of voting.

Several hundred observers from different countries work at the elections. There are also quite a few media workers.

Candidate

The current President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who has been head of state since 2016, is taking part in the recently started elections as a candidate.

The famous politician’s rivals are Ulugbek Inoyatov (from the People’s Democratic Party), Robakhon Makhmudova (nominated by the Adolat party) and Abdushukur Khamzaev (from the Ecological Party).

The last elections took place in the fall of 2021. Then Shavkat Mirziyoyev won a convincing victory. More than 80 percent of voters who came to the polling stations voted for him.
