Russian diplomats in Cairo confirmed information that Egypt has officially submitted an application to join BRICS.
Previously, Egypt became a member of the New Development Bank created by the BRICS countries. The decision to join is due, among other things, to the interest in developing relations between Egypt and Russia.
The information that Egypt has applied to join BRICS was confirmed by the Russian Ambassador in Cairo Georgy Borisenko.
Egypt has applied to join the BRICS group, because one of the initiatives that BRICS is now engaged in is the maximum transfer of trade to alternative currencies, be it national ones or the creation of some kind of joint currency, the Russian diplomat is quoted as saying.
Egypt is interested in membership in the group and the opportunities that the association provides.
At the same time, the country’s authorities do not hide their interest in developing trade and other ties with Russia.
At this stage, new mechanisms for mutual settlements in existing trade transactions are being built, Borisenko noted.
Let us recall that on June 2 a meeting of the foreign ministers of the BRICS countries was held in Cape Town.
Then the authorities of Argentina, Bangladesh, Venezuela, Gabon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, the Union of the Comoros, Cuba, the UAE and Saudi Arabia announced their desire to join the association.
