The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, said, this Friday (11), that the election for president of the Republic is “more destiny than one’s own will”.
“The aspiration of those who were mayors, governors, in short, are legitimate. And in my case, specifically, I am completely focused on rebuilding my state”, commented Leite during an event, in the city of São Paulo, with authorities, businesspeople and academics on public security, promoted by Comunitas, a civil society organization specialized in modeling and implement sustainable partnerships between the public and private sectors.
Leite is in his second term as governor of Rio Grande do Sul. According to him, throughout 2025, what he intends to do in the next general elections, in 2026, will be discussed.
Center strength
Regarding the results of the first round, Leite said that the municipal elections.
However, the articulation of this political spectrum “is more complex because it has a greater diversity of leaders”, unlike the left, which “more easily coalesces around the leader it has”, in reference to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT ).
PSDB moment
In the municipal election, the PSDB saw its political strength reduced by almost half.
The governor of Rio Grande do Sul — who was once president of the party — assesses that the electoral performance does not reflect what could happen in the future. He uses the example of the PT, which in 2020 and, “two years later, elected the president of the Republic”.
In his opinion, the Tucanos’ performance “is not a result that is celebrated due to numerical strength, but it is an expressive result within the challenging framework that was imposed on the party within the polarization that was established between PT and PL”.
Still according to Leite, the moment requires , to increase its political strength.

“The survival of an alternative through the PSDB imposes a relationship with other political forces due to the rules we have”, commented the governor.
