Elections to the EU Parliament have started: 375 million people will vote

62views

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, elections to the European Parliament began.

Deputies will be elected for the next five-year term in four days – until June 9 inclusive.

As TASS agency, the event will take place in all EU countries, however, in accordance with the national legislation of each individual state.

On Thursday, elections will be held in the Netherlands, the next day – in Ireland and the Czech Republic, on June 8 – in Italy, Malta, Latvia and Slovakia.

The vast majority of European Union countries will vote on June 9.

In states that allow voting by mail or online, the process may extend beyond the four-day period.

For this reason, some European media are warning of potential violations.

They write that citizens of one EU country permanently residing in another (there are tens of millions of them) can vote twice: at home and at their place of residence.

But it is not possible to verify this, since each country will summarize the voting results independently.

By the way, the number of voters in the European Union is 375 million people.

There are 720 seats in the European Parliament. Each country receives a certain number of mandates – proportional to its population.

For example, Germany has the most of them – 96. Malta, Cyprus and Luxembourg have the fewest – 6 each.

In connection with the start of elections in the European Union, security measures have been strengthened – intelligence services do not exclude the possibility of provocations.

Earlier, China announced to develop relations with Ukraine.
