Electoral Justice minimizes the impact of the return of X in the 2nd round of municipal elections | Blogs

Prosecutors, prosecutors and electoral judges believe that the resumption of operation of the X in Brazil should not have a significant negative impact on the dispute in the second round of municipal elections nor increase the volume of lawsuits in court.

The assessment is that the social network will return to operation amid a reduced period of the electoral campaign, with a much smaller number of candidates and without any problematic cases related to the use of the platforms having been recorded until Sunday.

Three weeks separate the first and second round, which takes place on October 27th. The number of candidates competing for voters’ votes is also smaller. Of the 645 municipalities in the State of São Paulo, for example, 18 cities will have a second round to define their mayors.

A prosecutor who works before an electoral court says that the return of X will add fuel to the dispute, but will not constitute an extraordinary disturbance. This perception is shared by other colleagues.

Legal operators claim that, unlike what happened in the 2018 and 2022 elections, social networks did not represent a problem for the Electoral Court until the first round as expected.

One of the main fears of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) was the massive use of artificial intelligence to spread fake news.

Concern about the criminal use of artificial intelligence has given rise to cases of political violence and the infiltration of criminal organizations into political campaigns and parties.
