“These will be unmanned to test how reliable landings on Mars work. If these landings go well, the first manned flights to Mars in 4 years take place,” said SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk.

Plans to build a city on Mars

“Flight rates will increase exponentially from then on, with the goal of building a self-sufficient city in about 20 years,” Musk added. “Being multiplanetary will significantly increase the likely lifespan of consciousness because we will no longer have all our eggs, literally and metabolically, on one planet.”

The Starship is currently the most powerful rocketthat was ever built. It’s about 122 Meter high and generated at startup 7.58 million kilograms of thrust. This means that its performance exceeds that of the Space Launch System (SLS)the rocket in NASA’s Artemis program, almost doubled.

Because the Starship is so powerful, it will one day be used to colonize Mars – at least if Elon Musk’s personal plans go according to it.
