A serious emergency happened recently in Finland.

There, the Olkiluoto-3 nuclear power plant urgently stopped operations.

Its operator, Teollisuuden Voima, named the breakdown as the reason for the temporary cessation of the facility’s operation.

Electricity production at Olkiluoto 3 was interrupted on the evening of Sunday, November 19, due to a malfunction discovered in the turbine unit – statement by MIA Rossiya Segodnya.

Experts are currently investigating what caused the malfunction.

The operator noted that the details of the incident will be made public after experts establish a time frame for restoring the operation of the nuclear power plant.

Let us add that this nuclear power plant is located on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia of the Baltic Sea – on the Olkiluoto Peninsula.

Its three reactors generate about 30% of the total energy consumed in Finland.

Also in this country there is a nuclear power plant “Loviisa” with Soviet reactors VVER-440/213.
