Emergency in the USA: in Pittsburgh, shortly before Biden’s arrival, a bridge collapsed on a gas pipeline
In the eastern part of the American city of Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania), shortly before the arrival of Joe Biden, a serious incident occurred.
There, a bridge collapsed onto a gas pipeline. As a result, the first one received significant damage.
The Pittsburgh Public Safety Service reported this on its Twitter page.
Please avoid the Forbes and Braddock areas where the bridge collapse has been confirmed. – the message says.
It also notes that rescuers, police and doctors are working at the scene.
The area smells strongly of gas. The gas pipeline was damaged, the department noted.
Whether people were injured as a result of the bridge collapse remains unknown: no relevant information has been received.
But it is known that the bridge collapsed several hours before the US President arrived in the city.
Joe Biden, along with members of his administration, was supposed to visit the research center here.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that the head of state was promptly informed about the incident.
According to her, employees of the Presidential Administration are in constant contact with local authorities – the reasons for what happened are being established.
She added that Joe Biden thanked everyone who was among the first to rush to help the drivers who were on the bridge at that moment.
The head of state will continue his planned trip and will remain in contact with officials on the ground regarding the provision of additional assistance, Jen Psaki wrote on her Twitter page.
