Erdogan is dissatisfied with negotiations with Finland and Sweden on joining NATO

41views

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed dissatisfaction with the results of negotiations with the delegations of Finland and Sweden on the accession of these countries to the North Atlantic Alliance.

The Turkish leader said that while he is president, Ankara will not support the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO.

This was reported by TRT TV channel.

Why Erdogan is unhappy

The Turkish head of state said that the negotiations were not at the level that Ankara expected.

He reproached Helsinki and Stockholm for dishonesty and insincerity, and also accused Sweden of protecting terrorists.

According to Erdogan, as long as he is president of Turkey, it will not say “yes” to the entry of countries supporting terrorism into NATO.

Turkey’s position

Earlier, Ankara blocked the start of the process of considering Sweden and Finland’s application to join NATO.

Erdogan said that he could not agree to this because he did not believe the assurances of Stockholm and Helsinki about connections with representatives of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which is banned in Turkey.

According to the Turkish President, if Finland and Sweden join NATO, the alliance will become a place where there are many representatives of terrorists.
