EU wants consequences for Israel for rejecting Gaza peace plan

43views

The EU insists that if Israel refuses to participate in its plan for a peaceful resolution of the situation in the Gaza Strip, there must be consequences for Tel Aviv.

Politicians from Brussels suggested that the leaders of all countries belonging to the European Community work on formulating such consequences.

The Financial Times writes about this with reference to a document distributed on the eve of today’s meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU countries.

Ministers were asked to “outline the consequences” for Israel for its “participation or non-participation” in the plan.

And he, says MIA Rossiya Segodnya, also implies “the creation of a state for Palestine and mutual sovereign recognition.”

The author of the article in the Financial Times suggests that the negotiations between EU foreign ministers indicate growing concern among Tel Aviv’s allies over the latter’s position.

We propose some ideas to Member States. And part of those ideas is how we will use the conditions that we have in the future to see how we can achieve a two-state solution,” one European official said.

And another noted: Brussels’ proposal is a reflection of European anger at Israel’s rejection of the two-state idea.

Earlier, Israel announced the imminent end of the active war in northern Gaza.
