Euroactiv: Bulgaria delays promised military aid to Ukraine

47views

Bulgaria is delaying the shipment of 100 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine due to funding problems.

This was reported by Euractiv, citing deputies of the People’s Assembly of Bulgaria.

Why is the transfer of armored personnel carriers delayed?

According to deputies from the ruling bloc “Continue Change” – “Democratic Bulgaria”, the delivery is delayed due to the request of the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense to the North Atlantic Alliance to cover transport costs.

MP from the PP-DB Ivaylo Mirchev blamed the Ministry of Defense for the current situation, which, in his opinion, is not working optimally.

We cannot transport a hundred armored personnel carriers from Sofia to Ruse in 3 months, – the parliamentarian complained.

In November, the Bulgarian parliament approved the free transfer to Ukraine of 100 old armored personnel carriers that had been stored in the warehouses of the Bulgarian Ministry of Internal Affairs since the 1980s.

In mid-January, the head of the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense, Todor Tagarev, said that the armored personnel carriers had not been transferred because it was unclear who would pay for the transportation.

Earlier it was reported that Sweden has the largest package of military assistance to Ukraine.
