Federal Police have already arrested 61 people for electoral crimes

The number of people detained in the first round of municipal elections rose to 61 people. The update appears in the Federal Police (PF) bulletin released at 12:30 pm this Sunday (6).

The director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, said that two candidates for councilor in Roraima were among the people detained. He did not specify the crimes committed.

PF agents seized around R$184,400 in cash and R$300,600 in goods. Irregular propaganda and electoral corruption, such as vote buying, were the main crimes investigated.

“Today, more than R$184,000 in cash have already been seized, in addition to the seizure of other assets. This is the result of work coordinated by the central body of the Federal Police in conjunction with all our units within this operation to guarantee the fairness and integrity of the electoral process”, stated the director general in an interview with journalists at the headquarters of the Federal Highway Police .

There were 61 cases of electoral crimes registered by PF agents. Of this total, 19 are investigations, 20 are detailed documents drawn up and 22 are flagrant situations.

Balance of the elections

According to Andrei Rodrigues, more than R$21 million in cash has already been seized since the beginning of the electoral process this year.
The number is higher than the amount seized in previous elections. According to Rodrigues, in 2022 around R$5 million were collected, while in 2020 it was R$1.5 million.

“This year alone there were more than 60 operations, which is double the number of the last election and which gives us confidence that we will have a safer and smoother electoral process”, stated Rodrigues.

PF agents are using 95 drones throughout Brazil to monitor possible cases of vote buying, exit polling, irregular transportation of voters and other electoral crimes.

According to Rodrigues, 61 people have already been arrested this Sunday morning. Of these, two were candidates for councilor in Roraima. The director general did not specify the crimes committed.
