President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) chose the state deputy for Minas Gerais Macaé Evaristo (PT-MG) for .

The head of the Executive met with the PT member this Monday before defining her name.

“Today I invited state deputy Macaé Evaristo to take over the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship. She accepted. I will sign her appointment soon. Welcome and a great job”, wrote Lula on his official Instagram profile.

As shown by the CNNLula would like to take the position in place of Silvio Almeida, fired last Friday (6) after being accused of sexual harassment.

Born in São Gonçalo do Pará (MG), Macaé Evaristo is a state deputy for Minas Gerais for PT. It is her first term in the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais. In 2020, she was elected to her first term as a councilor in Belo Horizonte.

The deputy was previously municipal secretary of education (2005 to 2012) in Belo Horizonte and state secretary (2015 to 2018) of education in Minas Gerais (2015 to 2018). In 2013 and 2014, she was head of the Secretariat of Continuing Education, Literacy, Diversity and Inclusion of the Ministry of Education, in the government of Dilma Rousseff (PT).

The PT parliamentarian helped implement racial inclusion and full-time school policies at the Ministry of Education. The 59-year-old PT member has a degree in Social Work, a master’s degree and a doctorate in education. She has worked as a teacher since she was 19 years old.

The Minister of Management and Innovation, Esther Dweck, is from the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship. She will accumulate both functions until Macaé officially occupies the position.

The Secretary of Shared Services at the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI), Cilair Rodrigues de Abreu, was from the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship (MDHC). Like Dweck, he will occupy both roles simultaneously.
