Finland and Sweden signed NATO accession protocols

46views

The process of ratification of the protocols on the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO has begun.

Both countries signed the relevant documents,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg informed on July 5.

According to MIA Rossiya Segodnya, the open part of the meeting of the military-political bloc at its headquarters (Brussels) was broadcast on the NATO website before the signing of the protocols.

The event was attended by the Foreign Ministers of Sweden and Finland, Ann Linde and Pekka Haavisto.

The signed protocols, according to Mr. Stoltenberg, make it possible to launch the ratification process.

He added that “NATO’s doors remain open to European countries willing to help ensure common security.”

The procedure provides that after signing, the protocols on the accession of Helsinki and Stockholm to NATO will be sent to all members of the alliance for ratification.

Western media suggest that the process will not be quick. On the contrary, it can drag on for months.
