The ambassadors of Finland and Sweden submitted applications to join the organization to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
The official ceremony took place at the headquarters of the North Atlantic Alliance in Brussels.
MIA Rossiya Segodnya reported this, recalling that Sweden announced its decision to submit an application on May 15.
At the same time, Stockholm emphasized that if the country is accepted into NATO, it will oppose the deployment of nuclear weapons and military bases on its territory.
On the same day, an official statement was also made in Helsinki about the decision to join the Alliance.
Russia regards the potential expansion of NATO as a security threat. Finland has been repeatedly warned of a “strong response”.
At the same time, Vladimir Putin, during a conversation with the President of Finland, noted that today there are no threats to Suomi, therefore, joining NATO is the wrong path.
He explained: if Finland joins NATO, this could negatively affect its relations with Russia.
