Finland has begun building a fence on the border with Russia.

The total length of the fence is expected to be 70 kilometers.

This was reported by the Finnish TV channel.

What kind of fence does Finland plan to build?

It is reported that construction of the fence has begun in the area of the Imatra-Severogorsk border crossing, and a 3-kilometer test section is being built there.

The day before, trees were uprooted on both sides of the border crossing.

A road will be built next to the fence for border patrols and repair work.

It is planned to install loudspeakers and lighting in certain sections of the fence.

Earlier it was reported that the Finnish government allocated 139 million euros from the 2023 budget for the construction of a fence on the border with Russia.

According to border guards, this amount will be enough to build approximately 70 km of fencing.

In south-east Finland, where the most popular checkpoints in terms of passenger traffic are located, the length of the fence will be 52 km, in North Karelia – 8 km, in Lapland and Kainuu – 5 km.
