Fire festival in Iran ends with 26 deaths

In Iran, 26 people were killed during a fire festival.

The number of victims, according to the Mehr agency, was 4,360 citizens.

According to the TASS agency, citing the head of the country’s emergency service, about 1,400 ambulance stations operate on high alert during the holidays.

In Tehran alone, 1,800 calls regarding fire danger were recorded, and two residents of the capital were killed.

It is reported that Iranians celebrating mainly suffer burns due to jumping over fires and careless handling of pyrotechnics.

Let us add that every year on the last Wednesday before March 21, the Iranian New Year of Nowruz, the country celebrates one of the oldest holidays, Chaharshanbe-Suri (“Red Wednesday”).

On this day, millions of residents of the Islamic Republic take to the streets of cities and villages, light bonfires and jump over them all night long.
