The Electoral Court of Pará sentenced former federal deputy Wladimir Costa to 12 years in prison for political violence, gender-based political violence, political persecution, psychological violence against women, extortion, insult and major defamation.

Wlad Costa can appeal the decision. Judge Andrea Ferreira Bispo, however, previously denied the possibility of an appeal in freedom.

The process in question is related to the case involving federal deputy Renilce Nicodemos (MDB-PA). She had been the target of threats, insults and incitements to commit crimes against her on social media and radio, according to the sentence.

The sentence published this Monday (9) is 207 pages long and brings together transcripts of the defendant’s online broadcasts, as well as prints of conversations.

According to the Public Ministry’s complaint, Renilce began working with Wlad when he was a deputy, which evolved into a friendship. The then parliamentarian became best man at her wedding, and with that he generated intimacy and affection.

The MP says, however, that in 2018 she was elected and he was ineligible, so he started making demands that she make payments to him, threatening to carry out a real campaign against her on social media and radio stations where he worked as anchor.

An investigation was opened at the Federal Police based on persecution and extortion. According to the investigation, the former deputy even made music, spread banners across the streets of Belém and even hired a sound car to swear at deputy Renilce Nicodemos. In lives on the internet, the former parliamentarian would also suggest that his followers stone her.

Former president tattoo

As a parliamentarian, Wladimir became known for tattooing the name of then president Michel Temer (MDB) on his shoulder in 2017. The deputy appeared with the – when he was shirtless in Salinópolis (PA), during the delivery of waste collection trucks trash. His mandate was revoked at the end of that year.

CNN is trying to contact the former congressman’s legal team.

Arrested in April

Based on the investigation and as determined by the Court, at Belém International Airport (PA).

PF agents approached the former parliamentarian when he arrived by flight in the capital of Pará. He was soon sent to the state prison system.

The preventive detention requested by the Federal Police was granted due to the repeated practice, among others, of electoral crimes of political violence committed against federal deputy Renilce on social media.

The court decision also ordered the deletion of the social media posts that led to the arrest warrant.

Gender political violence

Three years after the publication of the Law that made political gender violence a crime (Law 14,192/21), none of them became final, that is, without the possibility of appeal (data from 2021 to 2023). This one by Wlad Costa would be the third.

The data is contained in the Gender and Race Political Violence Monitor Report, launched in August by the National Observatory of Women in Politics of the Chamber of Deputies, together with the Alziras Institute and the French Development Agency.

According to the report, one in four representations of gender-based political violence between 2021 and 2023 was archived or closed.
