According to the TASS agency, citing the CBS television company, the Marine Corps veteran volunteered to join the Foreign Legion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces 15 months ago.
The TV channel reports that an American soldier died last week in Kramatorsk.
The death of Ian Tortorici was confirmed by his relatives.
At the end of May, the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia reported that more than 2,000 mercenaries from 71 countries were fighting against Russia in the Northern Military District zone.
According to the Investigative Committee, the largest number of foreigners – 366 – are citizens of Georgia.
