France became the first country in the world to enshrine the right to abortion in its Constitution.

The historic decision was made in the famous Palace of Versailles by the French Parliament.

It was there that representatives of both chambers adopted an amendment enshrining in the country’s Constitution the right of women to have an abortion.

TASS spoke about this, noting that thanks to the decision made, France became the first country on planet Earth where the corresponding right is officially mentioned in the Constitution.

According to National Assembly Speaker Yael Bron-Piwe, 780 out of 925 deputies and senators voted for the amendment.

Previously, French President Emmanuel Macron took the initiative to include women’s rights to abortion in the Constitution.

Having learned about the voting results, he expressed support for the decision taken by parliamentarians.
