France sent troops to New Caledonia and blocked TikTok

Recently it became known that France sent troops to New Caledonia and blocked local access to the social network TikTok.

The reason for this, as the head of the French government, Gabriel Attal, said at a crisis meeting of ministers, was pogroms on the island.

French army troops were deployed to secure the ports and airport of New Caledonia, – premiere of MIA “Russia Today”.

Emergency mode

He noted that support in the form of armed forces was requested by the High Commissioner of the French Overseas Territory, Louis Le Franc.

It was on his orders that access to TikTok was blocked in the region.

According to media reports, from eight o’clock in the evening Paris time (from 19:00 Minsk time, from 11:00 New Caledonia time) on May 15, a state of emergency has been in force on this Pacific island.

By the way, the archipelago of New Caledonia islands, including the large one of the same name, is located almost 20,000 km from France, which declared it its possession in 1853.

Currently, about 270,000 people live in this territory (which has a special administrative-territorial status).

As for the state of emergency, according to the representative of the French government, Prisca Thévenot, it will last for 12 days.

Pogroms

The head of the French Ministry of Internal Affairs, Gerald Darmanin, ordered two citizens from among the supporters of the island’s independence to be placed under house arrest.

Paris considers them to be among those who organized mass protests.

The pogroms mentioned above were especially violent during a peaceful demonstration in Nouméa (the capital of New Caledonia).

Aggressive individuals who wormed their way into the crowd at some point began to set fire to and rob cars, shops, pharmacies, and gas stations.

As a result, four people died, including a 22-year-old gendarme. Hundreds of people were injured, including, as the media write, dozens of security forces.

Previously, Germany was the homeland of 7 Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers: they had Nazi symbols.
