The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that there will be no accelerated entry of Ukraine into the European Union.
This statement was made by the Minister-Delegate for European Affairs at the French Foreign Ministry, Clément Beaune.
Applicant status
On June 17, the European Commission recommended that the EU summit grant Ukraine and Moldova the status of candidates for membership in the community.
The day before, at a meeting of the General Affairs Council of the European Union, a political consensus was reached on granting Ukraine candidate status at the EU summit, which will be held on June 23-24.
Position of the French Foreign Ministry
Bon ruled out the possibility of an accelerated procedure for Ukraine’s admission to the EU without meeting all existing conditions.
There will be no fast track procedure, no free entry, – said a representative of the French Foreign Ministry on the radio station.
According to him, the EU is “opening the door” for Ukraine, but joining the community will require a cessation of hostilities in the country and its restoration, as well as achieving an appropriate level of economy and democracy, which takes time.
Bon believes that the process of Ukraine’s accession to the EU will be lengthy, since it requires a unanimous decision by all countries of the community, including France, where this may require a referendum.
All democratic procedures must be followed, – the minister added.
