French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has expressed his desire to leave his post.

He said he plans to send his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron no later than this Monday, July 8.

In accordance with democratic tradition, I will submit my resignation to the President of the Republic on the morning of July 8, – official statement by the head of government, TASS agency.

It is noted that Monsieur Attal notified the general public about this immediately after the preliminary data of the early parliamentary elections were made public.

At the same time, the politician said that he was ready to serve as prime minister as long as needed.

Attal drew attention to the “unprecedented” political situation in France against the backdrop of the upcoming Olympic Games in the country and, accordingly, the arrival of a large number of foreigners.

“I will perform my duties for as long as necessary,” said the head of government.
