Against the backdrop of an unsuccessful counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the United States is preparing for a war of attrition.

The Financial Times reports this.

What is the US preparing for?

According to the report, disagreements arose between Ukrainian and American officials about the counteroffensive.

According to the publication, US officials urged the Ukrainian authorities to be less risk-averse and fully utilize their forces in the southern direction.

American officials also warned Ukraine against concentrating forces in the eastern direction.

However, in the end, the publication notes, the best units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were sent there.

Now, the FT writes, amid a failed counteroffensive, the United States is privately preparing for a war of attrition that could last until 2024.

The publication also reports that recently the co-chair of the group on Ukraine in the US Congress, Andy Harris, at a meeting with voters, said that the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had failed, that Ukraine was unlikely to win and that assistance to Kyiv should be reduced.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces began on June 4 in the Zaporozhye, Artemovsk and South Donetsk directions.

On July 11, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the Ukrainian army had not achieved success in any direction, having lost more than 26,000 troops and over 3,000 weapons since the start of the counteroffensive.

On July 31, Shoigu called the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces unsuccessful and reported that their losses in July amounted to more than 20,800 troops and over 2,200 pieces of equipment.

On August 4, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that since the start of the counteroffensive, the Ukrainian army had lost more than 43,000 military personnel and over 4,900 weapons.
