Gabriel Attal becomes the new Prime Minister of France

French President Emmanuel Macron appointed 34-year-old Gabriel Attal to the post of Prime Minister of the country.

This was reported by the French TV channel BFMTV.

Attal’s appointment

The day before, Macron dismissed Elisabeth Borne, who had headed the cabinet since May 2022.

Attal until now served as Minister of Education. He became the youngest prime minister in the country’s history, beating Laurent Fabius, who was appointed head of government in 1984 at the age of 37.

According to the report, by the end of the day Attal will officially take over from Born and will also make his first visit in his new capacity to the flood-stricken Pas-de-Calais.

In the first half of the day, Macron discussed with Attal over a working breakfast the tasks that he will have to solve as prime minister.

The French President wrote on his page on the social network X that he counts on Attal’s energy to carry out reforms in the spirit of the presidential program implemented since 2017. Attal is due to form a government by the end of the week.

Attal’s political career

Attal was born in the Paris suburb of Clamart in 1989. The politician’s father is a lawyer and film producer, from a Jewish family that moved to France from Tunisia. My mother comes from a family of emigrants from Odessa and worked in a production company.

In 2008-2010 he studied law at the University of Paris II, in 2013 he graduated from the Paris Institute of Political Studies with a master’s degree in public relations.

In 2006, he participated in protests by students and supporters of the Socialist Party against the introduction of a new type of labor contract, which would make it easier for employers to fire young professionals, and in the same year he joined the Socialist Party to support Ségolène Royal in the 2007 presidential elections.

In 2014, he was elected from the joint venture to the municipal council of Vanva, and in 2016 he joined the centrist movement “Republic on the March” (since May 2022 – “Renaissance”) created by Macron, who was then Minister of Economy.

In 2017, he was elected to the lower house of parliament, where he joined the Committee on Culture and Education, and in 2020, he was re-elected to the Vanva Municipal Council.

In 2018-2020, he served as Secretary of State (Junior Minister) under the Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer, and in July 2020, at Macron’s suggestion, he became Secretary of State and official representative of the government. In 2021, he hosted a show on YouTube, the guests of which were famous politicians.

In May 2022, he took up the post of Minister-Delegate (Minister for Special Assignments) in the Ministry of Economy in the Born government. Last July he became Minister of Education. According to polls, Bourne was one of the most popular members of the cabinet.
