According to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, the country deserved the status of a candidate for joining the European Union more than Ukraine and Moldova.

This is how the head of the Georgian government commented on the European Parliament resolution in support of granting EU candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova.

What Garibashvili said

The Georgian prime minister said that he was happy for Ukraine and Moldova and did not envy their success, but Georgia deserved better.

If anyone from these three countries deserved it, it was us,” he said.

Garibashvili noted that he understands that today there is a “different environment” in the world and that very complex processes are taking place all over the world.

According to the head of the Georgian government, one should “accept this calmly.”

And to continue the development and strengthening of our country, – Garibashvili concluded.

Applicant status

Let us recall that on June 17, the European Commission recommended that the EU summit grant Ukraine and Moldova the status of candidates for membership in the community.

The EC’s recommendations will be considered by EU leaders at the summit on June 23-24.

Today the EP adopted a resolution in support of granting candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova.

The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, said that he is confident that a decision on granting status will be made at the EU summit.
