Georgian President vetoes draft law on foreign agents

194views

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili vetoed the draft law on foreign agents adopted by her country’s parliament.

She herself stated this during a specially organized briefing, calling the document “Russian.”

I vetoed the “Russian” law. This law is an obstacle to the European path, – a high-ranking politician at MIA Rossiya Segodnya.

She promised to submit a “legally sound” veto to parliament.

The law is not subject to any changes or improvements. This law must be repealed,” noted Mrs. Zurabishvili.

Let us add that she has repeatedly stated that she will block this document when it comes to her for signature.

Also, Madam President publicly supported her compatriots protesting against the adoption of this bill.

At the same time, the presidential veto in Georgia, as political scientists note, is essentially only a formal procedure, since parliament only needs a simple majority of votes to override it.

Earlier it became known that a committee of the Georgian parliament approved the issue of foreign agents in the third reading.
