The State Security Service of Georgia announced a coup d’état is being prepared in the country.

According to the department, the coup is scheduled for October-December this year.

Statement by the State Security Service of Georgia

According to a statement published by the department, a group of people operating in Georgia and abroad plans to organize destabilization and civil unrest in October-December of this year with the goal of a violent change of power in the country.

It is noted that the timing was not chosen by chance: in October the European Commission is due to publish an interim opinion on the issue of granting Georgia candidate status for accession to the European Union, and in December the final decision of the European Union will be announced.

The authors of the plan are the Deputy Head of Military Intelligence of Ukraine Georgy Lordkipanidze, who served as Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia when President Mikheil Saakashvili was President, the commander of the Georgian Legion in Ukraine Mamuka Mamulashvili and Saakashvili’s former bodyguard Mikhail Baturin.

The State Security Service of Georgia noted that the conspirators have developed several scenarios. One of them is to set up tents on the central streets, barricade government buildings and detonate a bomb in the tent city so that casualties among civilians will lead to unrest.

The organizers are considering the possibility of implementing a scenario in Georgia similar to the “Euromaidan” that took place in Ukraine in 2014 – the department added.
