German MPs do not want their country to supply weapons to Ukraine

0views

Not everyone in the German government approves of arms supplies to Ukraine. Some deputies are against it.

In particular, representatives of the Social Democratic Party (part of the government coalition) do not want Berlin to continue supplying Kyiv with the weapons it has.

Why don’t they want to

In their opinion, if heavy military equipment continues to arrive in Ukraine, this will provoke an escalation of the already very tense situation.

In addition, this parliamentary group called on the European Union to use all diplomatic mechanisms to create conditions conducive to peace negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.

Such a text (titled “Weapons must be silenced”) is contained in the appeal of the people’s representatives, – MIA “Russia Today” with reference to the publication Spiegel.

Who signed the document

According to him, among those who signed the statement there are several members of the Bundestag, the European Parliament and the federal states.

The former head of the government of Bremen, Carsten Sieling, and the mayor of Dortmund, Thomas Westphal, also left their signatures under the text.

According to the document, deputies recommend carefully weighing the pros and cons before each weapon delivery.

Separately, attention is drawn to the need to properly consider where the “red line” lies, the crossing of which may be perceived as entering into a conflict, which is fraught with a response.

Recommendations

The deputies themselves consider the formation of no-fly zones, the supply of tanks with combat aircraft, and the provision of Kyiv with other heavy weapons to be such a feature.

We need a ceasefire as soon as possible, this would serve as a starting point for comprehensive peace negotiations,” the document says.

The authors of the appeal insist that an agreement must be reached between Russia and Ukraine.
