Germany decided to block the approval of a new package of anti-Russian sanctions

The German government has decided to block the approval of a new package of anti-Russian sanctions by the European Union.

These restrictions are aimed at tightening control over those who bypass restrictive measures.

In addition, the package provides for restrictions related to the export of Russian liquefied gas.

TASS reported this with reference to the DPA agency, which in turn refers to unnamed diplomatic sources from the EU.

According to them, the reason that a new package of sanctions has not yet been agreed upon is Berlin’s expressed doubts and desire to “make amendments.”

Lately there has been a feeling that Germany has become the new Hungary,” said DPA’s interlocutor.

According to a statement by European diplomats, Germany insists on the complete exclusion from the new package of measures to hold foreign branches of organizations accountable for violating sanctions.

As an alternative, Berlin proposes limiting the measure to only those companies that produce certain goods.

This is justified by the fact that otherwise German enterprises may suffer.

In addition, Berlin considers some other sanctions too harsh and proposes to soften them, in particular, restrictions on the use of the Russian financial information exchange system.

Previously, the United States planned to impose taxes on companies from China for supplying chips to Russia.
