The German government does not share the position of the authorities of the Czech Republic and Poland that the Nord Stream gas pipelines are a legitimate goal of Kyiv, and considers undermining them a crime.

He recalled that German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz clearly expressed Berlin’s position on this issue in negotiations with the Czech and Polish sides and other partners.

Earlier, Czech President Petr Pavel said in an interview with Novinky that Nord Streams are a legitimate goal of Ukraine.

The Czech leader noted that the conflict is being waged not only against military targets, but also against strategic targets, such as gas pipelines.

The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, compared this statement with statements by representatives of terrorist cells.

On August 15, the former head of the German Federal Intelligence Service, August Hanning, told Die Welt that the presidents of Ukraine and Poland, Vladimir Zelensky and Andrzej Duda, probably agreed to undermine Nord Streams, since this terrorist attack could not be a private initiative.

He also called on the German leadership to demand compensation from Ukraine and Poland for undermining the Nord Streams if their involvement is proven.

The Süddeutsche Zeitung, citing a joint investigation with the publication Die Zeit and the ARD television channel, reported that the German Prosecutor General’s Office issued an arrest warrant for a diving instructor from Ukraine suspected of involvement in blowing up gas pipelines.

According to the publication, three Ukrainian diving instructors are suspected.

German media also accused Poland of lack of cooperation in the sabotage investigation. According to German investigators, Warsaw was not ready to cooperate from the very beginning.

The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that the President of Ukraine approved the plan to undermine Nord Streams, but tried to reverse this decision after the US Central Intelligence Agency learned about it.
