Germany’s flood death toll rises to 42

The number of flood victims in Germany continues to rise.

At the moment, 42 deaths are already known. Previously, 20 deaths were reported.

Dozens of people are listed as missing.

Let us remind you that due to heavy rains in western Germany, rivers overflowed their banks.

The federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and Saarland were hit the hardest.

About 135,000 homes were left without electricity, and thousands of people were evacuated.

Among the dead are emergency services employees: in one of the flooded areas, two firefighters who were evacuating the population were killed.

Forecasters warn that the downpours will continue. River levels are expected to rise further and there is a threat of dam failure.
