About the event TASS agency with reference to the press service of the Oxford University Press.
The publishing house’s employees explained what the expression they chose as the main word of 2022 means.
“Goblin Mode” is “an extremely selfish pattern of behavior that defies social norms and expectations, and is characterized by laziness, untidiness, and greed.”
This phrase first appeared on the social network Twitter back in 2009.
But only in February of this year did it come into use among many citizens, or at least began to spread widely among lovers of slang expressions.
Moreover, its spread became so rapid that even journalists began to use the expression, putting it in the headlines of articles.
It is noted that the driver for the spread of the “goblin regime” was the lifting of restrictions in a number of countries related to the coronavirus pandemic.
