Government celebrates “significant” approval of Galípolo’s nomination in the Senate

The Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, celebrated the

“The Senate has just significantly approved the nomination of Gabriel Galípolo for president of the BC. His technical quality and the expressive vote reinforce once again that President Lula has always been right in his nominations to the BC”, he said.

Padilha also stated that the federal Executive has “complete confidence” that Galípolo’s management will follow the law of autonomy of the Central Bank.

There were 66 votes in favor, five against and no abstentions.

The economist’s appointment had already been approved, also unanimously, by the Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee (CAE).

Galípolo was appointed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to assume the presidency of the BC in place of Roberto Campos Neto, whose term will end on December 31st of this year.

In the early afternoon, Galípolo had his name unanimously approved during a hearing in the Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee (CAE), under the report of Jaques Wagner (PT-BA), government leader in the House.

The session lasted almost 4 hours. There were 26 votes in favor and none against.
