Direct assistants to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) raise the suspicion, in private conversations, that the intensification of the fires could be the result of an orchestrated movement against the government.
According to sources at Palácio do Planalto, there is a possibility that the fires were intentionally set and created by a small group of people.
The government’s suspicion is that the fires have been started by those in charge, who order, from a distance, where the fires should start.
The suspicion is that people spread across different states are involved in carrying out these actions at the behest of this group, but investigations are still ongoing to identify those responsible and the true motivations behind the fires.
The outbreaks intensified in August, due to the dry weather, accounting for 10,328 outbreaks, according to the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe).
The institute also recorded, last month, the highest number of fire incidents in the Inpe historical base, which began measurements in 1998.
