Government wants proposal to avoid using the Bolsa Família card with bets until October

The Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger (MDS) reported this Friday (27) that it created a working group with the aim of preventing the use of the Bolsa Família card in online betting. The idea is that a proposal will be presented by next Wednesday (2).

The group works in an integrated manner with the Federal Inspection Network for Bolsa Família and Cadastro Único, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health and the Civil House.

A report from the Central Bank (BC) shows that betting companies received money via PIX in August this year. Of the bettors, 4 million (70%) are heads of families (those who actually receive the benefit) and sent R$2 billion (67%) via PIX to bets, as companies in the segment are known.

According to the BC, the average spent by beneficiaries of the social program on bets in the period was R$100. The survey considered bets made in 36 companies and ruled out other payment methods, such as credit and debit cards.

In a statement, the MDS said that social income transfer programs were created to guarantee food security and meet the basic needs of families and people in vulnerable situations.
