Harris officially confirmed as US presidential candidate

191views

The Democratic National Convention took place in the United States.

At an event in Chicago, the country’s current Vice President Kamala Harris was officially approved as a presidential candidate.

The politician, as the TASS agency, enlisted the support of 4,566 fellow party members – delegates to the congress.

The event was formal and, in fact, a solemn ceremony, since Democrats had earlier, in early August, voted remotely to nominate Harris as the party’s candidate for president.

According to media reports, the politician had no competitors in the ranks of the Democrats – in fact, her candidacy was approved by an absolute majority of votes.

The said convention completed the in-person counting of votes of delegates from each state.

More than 4,000 delegates who qualified during the Democratic primaries took part in the voting.

Let us remind you that the US presidential elections are scheduled for November 5th.

Previously, the current head of state, Joe Biden, refused to be nominated for a second term, although he had previously stated his intention to compete for a seat in the White House.

After withdrawing from the presidential race, Biden supported Harris’ candidacy.

Now the last step remains. Madam Vice President herself must announce that she agrees to run for a key government position in the country.
