The United States has lost an “iconic diplomat,” according to an aide to former State Department chief James Baker.
He says Kissinger played a key role in virtually every foreign policy issue of importance to Washington between 1969 and 1977.
Baker recalled that it was Kissinger who was believed to have developed the concept of a policy of détente with the Soviet Union.
He was also at the forefront of developing and promoting US relations with China.
The famous politician worked as the head of the American State Department from 1973 to 1977.
