“He will be very welcome in the MDB”, says Nunes about the possible expulsion of Tomás Covas from the PSDB

Tomás Covas, son of the former mayor of São Paulo, Bruno Covas, voted this Sunday morning (6) accompanied by the head of the municipal executive, Ricardo Nunes. Shortly after the vote, Nunes was asked about the 21-year-old’s possible political future and said that he would be “super welcome in the MDB” in the event of his expulsion from the PSDB.

The possibility of the young man being effectively expelled from the party – which has the Covas family as one of its founding families – arose after the PSDB suggested that it would remove from its ranks those members who supported Ricardo Nunes in the 2024 municipal election.

Tomás minimized the controversy, saying that he is not “concerned about this possibility” and that the focus is on Ricardo Nunes’ campaign. He praised the current mayor and said that the politician continued “brilliantly” what his father had been doing.

Ricardo Nunes, in turn, called people who are considering expelling Tomás Covas from the party “political scum” and said that it is necessary to “take advantage of young people who have all this public spirit”.

“It was always something I wondered about, following my father from an early age, since I was a child. I’m going to prepare myself so that, perhaps, in the next elections, I’ll be prepared. It’s not easy, you have to keep your thoughts and constructions up to date to be able to win an election”, said Tomás about the chance to run in 2028.

A CNN questioned the PSDB about Nunes’ speeches and is awaiting a position.
