Head of the Italian Ministry of Defense: dialogue between Russia and Ukraine could begin in the spring

The head of the Italian Ministry of Defense, Guido Crosetto, said that a dialogue between Russia and Ukraine could begin in the spring.

The minister’s statement was reported by the Italian news agency ANSA.

What Crosetto said about the dialogue between Russia and Ukraine

The head of the Italian Ministry of Defense did not rule out that in winter there would be a Russian response to the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

By spring, according to the minister, the parties to the conflict may exhaust their weapons reserves and attempt dialogue.

There may come a point next spring when the parties are running out of weapons and, to try to change things, an attempt at dialogue may be made, – Crosetto quotes.

This is not the first time that the Italian Minister of Defense has expressed his opinion about the possible end of the Ukrainian conflict.

In September, he said that attempts at a settlement would be made in Ukraine over the next seven to eight months.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at the end of September that Russia currently does not see serious proposals for negotiations on Ukraine from the West.

According to Lavrov, the peace formula of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, promoted by the West, is a pure ultimatum and is aimed at disrupting negotiations.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said on September 5 that peace negotiations should not be expected in the near future. According to Kuleba, one of the conditions for the start of negotiations should be Ukraine’s success on the battlefield.
