Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar said that Ukraine is very far from joining the European Union.

The head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry made this statement in an interview with Standard.sk.

What the head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry said about Ukraine’s accession to the European Union

The minister said that he could not imagine Ukraine joining the EU in the current conditions.

Blanar noted that he is interested in how European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will justify the proposal to begin negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the EU and answer the question of how the EU can begin negotiations with a country in military conflict.

I think that Ukraine’s membership in the European Union is very, very far away, – stated the head of Slovak diplomacy in an interview.

At the end of November, the head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry, following a meeting of the foreign ministers of the North Atlantic Alliance, said that Bratislava is ready to support Ukraine’s accession to the EU if it is a standard and not a political process.

According to Blanar, Ukraine must meet the conditions set for other candidates.

Let us recall that in early November, the European Commission recommended that the EU Council begin negotiations with Ukraine, Moldova and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as grant candidate status to Georgia. These issues will be discussed at the EU summit, which will take place on December 14-15.

The day before, Reuters reported that the EU summit would decide to begin negotiations on membership with Ukraine and Moldova.
