Houses are burning in lava. Iceland suffers from volcanic eruption

32views

The raging volcano in Iceland will not calm down – a powerful eruption is still ongoing.

Local authorities said the eruption was the most serious in five decades.

The country is in a state of emergency; all residents of the town of Grindavik, located next to the volcano, were previously urgently evacuated.

As on the air of the Russian Channel One, a lava flow has reached the outskirts of a given settlement, houses are burning there.

Numerous videos circulating on TV and the Internet show that lava is already in the immediate vicinity of residential buildings.

In addition, a crack appeared in the ground right on the city street. Before that, another crack appeared, which reportedly continues to expand.

The city is without power, but, as already noted, its population has been evacuated.

Trying to contain the attack of hot streams, rescuers are erecting protective barriers.

Local residents are worried: they fear that they will have nowhere to return.

The region is at the highest alert level.

It was previously reported that the volcano occurs on the Reykjanes Peninsula (southern Iceland).
