Today I was driving through Edmonton, and suddenly something special caught my eye. On one of the buildings I saw a bright and colorful flag of Ukraine waving in the wind, and on the wall there was a stunning mural depicting Ukrainian dancers and traditional clothes. It was such an unusual and unexpected sight that it seemed to me that I was transported back to Ukraine.

A Piece of Ukrainian Culture in Edmonton

The building housing these magnificent works of art is indeed a piece of Ukrainian culture in Edmonton. It is called «Zirka» and serves as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage that our compatriots brought with them to Canada.

Ukrainian Elements in Edmonton

It seems amazing to me how many Ukrainian elements can be found here in Edmonton. Sometimes I even catch myself thinking that I am not in Canada, but somewhere in Ukraine. Ahaha! Here and there you can find Ukrainian flags, folk ornaments and cultural centers that continue to preserve and pass on our traditions to new generations.

The Value of Peace

But the most important thing is that there is no war here. This feeling of peace and tranquility, which is so lacking at home, makes this corner even more valuable and meaningful.

A Special Discovery

This discovery made my day special and reminded me that, despite the distances, the Ukrainian soul will always find a way to express itself. I was pleased to see that our culture is alive and thriving even on another continent, and that here in Canada we can enjoy peace and security.
